Welcome to the website of Camping La Fresneda! We, Jet and Joost, left our careers in the Netherlands in 2002. With many years of experience as campers, we moved to the beautiful interior of Spain to single-handedly build our campsite and house. During construction, we adopted the local architectural style as much as possible and chose building techniques with minimal impact on the environment. For example, we built the shower ⁄ toilet block partly underground, and we made as much use as possible of local, recycled building materials (old roof tiles, natural stone, wooden beams).

Our campsite is situated in the beautiful region of the MatarraƱa in the northeast of Spain near the border with Catalonia. The Matarraña is characterized by hilly landscapes, medieval villages, olive and almond groves, vineyards, and is bordered by the National Reserve ‘Los Puertos de Beceite’ where there is a large population of ibex. The Matarraña and the National Reserve have many unpaved tracks from which you can enjoy the changing views and abundant flora and fauna on foot, horseback or mountain bike. Mountain bikes, E‑bikes, city bikes, and the mandatory helmet, can be hired from our campsite.

At Camping La Fresneda you can hear the silence. Our small, rural campsite offers 24 spacious pitches to welcome guests who are looking for an idyllic place to enjoy peacefulness and tranquility. We don’t have fixed pitches, chalets, or a swimming pool. To respect the tranquility of our guests, we do not accept groups or domestic animals and we ask guests not to play musical instruments or use airconditioners. A radio and/or television may be used only inside camper vans or caravans and at a discreet volume. When using smartphones, laptops and tablets, please mute the sound or use headphones.

Please avoid noise between 23:00 h and 08:00 h. Total tranquility, space, nature and a family approach characterize our cosy campsite.

Camping La Fresneda is situated in our own ‘finca’ of 18 hectares in a beautiful valley overlooking almond and olive groves and has a panoramic view to the National Reserve ‘Los Puertos de Beceite’. The ancient village of La Fresneda is 3 km away. This is our village, where you will find a bakery, two butchers, a small supermarket, three bars, three restaurants, a doctor, a pharmacy, a hairdresser, a garage and a tourist office.

Our rural and terraced campsite (third category) lies at an altitude of ± 565 m and offers a spectacular view over the valley and the Matarraña. Joost cooks paella every Saturday night. You can order until 12:00 h (max. 24 persons). The paella is served at 20:30 h on our terrace or in the bar, with good organic wines from the area. On other days salads, tapas, main dishes and pizzas can be ordered before 17:00 h. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also available. At 19:30 h the meals are delivered to the campsite by the caterer ‘Fatto in Casa‘. Or you can sit down for a quiet drink whilst enjoying the sunset. On Monday night our bar is closed.

To reduce the impact on our environment we recycle all paper, batteries, glass, cans, plastic, milk/juice packages and organic waste. We also maximize the use of energy efficient lighting. Water is scarce, so we kindly ask you not to waste water. To reduce the risk of forest fires, candles or open flames are not allowed. Smoking is only allowed on your own pitch. You may bring your own gas barbecue, but no wood or charcoal is allowed.

Because of the beautiful location and its friendly and relaxed atmosphere our campsite is the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful part of Spain. On checking in you will receive a binder that contains maps, detailed information about various activities (hiking, cycling, etc.) and other tourist information.

The camping guide ‘Cool Camping Europe’ chose Camping La Fresneda as the most beautiful campsite in Europe: “It’s perfectly and tastefully adapted to get a full-on Spanish experience. A little piece of paradise”.
